Nuages
The works in this series don't depict clouds, but many of the forms created by line, light, and shade have qualities reminiscent of the mutable shapes and volumes of clouds. Though no specific subjects are depicted, connections are mentally made to external ideas, images, or pieces of music like, for example, the musical composition of Claude Debussy, "Nuages," a symphonic, poetic depiction of clouds: and so the series is named for that particular association rather than having the title, "Clouds." Another feature of this set of drawings and paintings is an emphasis on depicting space, with lines acting more definitional than operating as independent, principal image.
